There is much to see and do on land by car, train, bus, cycling or simply walking. We recommend not only visiting the various links to find out more, but to visit the Tourist Information Centres when you arrive. They are friendly, helpful and a mine of information. A World Heritage Site. Take some time to visit Hadrian’s Wall and walk all or just some of its 84 miles. The vistas are dramatic and the Roman history captivating.
Easy to visit from all marinas, including Eyemouth.
Stands majestically above one of the prettiest villages in Northumberland on the banks of the River Coquet. Although much is in ruins, the castle's history is fascinating. It was home to the Dukes of Northumberland and immortalised in Shakespeare’s tales of Harry Hotspur and Edward IV.
Within walking distance of Amble Marina and seen from a number of berths at high tide.
Gateshead Millennium Bridge is the world's first and only tilting bridge. You can sail up the River Tyne, berth nearby and enjoy the splendour of the Quayside as you wander from Newcastle to Gateshead. Famous for its bridges including Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge, the area has much to offer.
Sail from Royal Quays Marina or take the bus.
The River Tees begins in the Pennines and in Upper Teesdale drops 21metres, where High Force is reputed to be the highest unbroken fall of water in England. Nearby is historic Raby Castle, home to the 11th Lord Barnard.
Hire a car and drive from Hartlepool Marina.
