The North East Coast of England and offers the variety of large ports situated in vibrant metropolitan areas, along with smaller fishing harbours and remote anchorages. Yet, despite its rugged image, the North East Coast of England provides for relatively simple and straightforward sailing.
In terms of navigation the coast generally runs straight north – south with few off lying dangers. Keeping 1 to 1.5 miles will keep you clear of most hazards (typically a succession of rocky scars). Overnight stops are well spaced.
The tidal currents which rarely run at more than 1 knot, run parallel with the coast and so are generally either with or against you.
The prevailing wind is from the west i.e. offshore, so in these conditions the lea of the land will result in flat seas. In summer months strong winds are relatively uncommon
